The Hip Hop Gymnast Performs

Over 40 million of you watched
our next guest whip and nae nae her way through a gymnastics
competition two weeks ago, from Temecula, California, please welcome,
UCLA gymnast, Sophina DeJesus.>>[APPLAUSE]
>>This is not your first time on the show,
you were here like ten years ago, right?>>I was, I was in a dance crew
called Diamonds in the Rough, when I was about 12 years old in 2006.>>Uh-huh, I remember that,
that was really impressive. You just kept going and
you’re doing more and more. Tell me about this video
that 40 million people have, what made you decide to add all
the whip nae nae and stuff in it.>>Well, I’m a senior so
I kind of thought long and hard. I was like, I want this year to be a bang,
and hit hard.>>Mm-hm.
>>So over the summer I was thinking of some
cool dance moves and some good music and my sisters an amazing dancer so she
kinda helped me put some cool things in. And like the dab and the nae nae and
the whip are really in, so I wanted people to follow along and
have fun with me. So I was like, let me throw that in,
and hopefully the crowd enjoys it too.>>Of course, they do.>>[LAUGH]
>>So what team, what was the score that your team had?>>We had 197.025 and
we beat Utah which is our rival by 0.025.>>Congratulations.>>[APPLAUSE]
>>Thank you, thank you.>>[APPLAUSE]
>>By 0.025.>>Yes, very close.>>And will you be going to the Olympics
by any chance or do you want to?>>That was always a dream
of mine when I was younger. When I was younger, I did a lot of things
and I was on the national team in 2009, and I went to Japan for
an international competition, and I won floor because that’s
my favorite one to perform. And then when I got back, I kept training
really hard and I fractured my back. So that dream was kind
of over a little bit. And your peak time for
the Olympics is 16 to 18 years old, and I’m 21, so
I’m kind of an old grandma for the sport. So I don’t think that’s in it right now. And now I’m in college. So this one’s really fun with the team and
hyping it up and stuff.>>Yeah, well that’s fantastic. All right well of course I’m
gonna ask you to perform for us.>>Yes.
>>It’s rude not to.>>[LAUGH]
>>So will you perform for us?>>Of course. [MUSIC] [APPLAUSE]
