How to make Kimbap

I brought my mom all the way from Busan to make something special today, say hello Hello~ Hi, we’ll be making Kimbap! One is the traditional one and another one is a vegetarian one. If you are not a big fan of the sushi with raw fish inside, then this may be for you, so let’s get started! ( ♫♪ Music ♪♫ ) One to two cups of rice, just clean the rice under cold water One cup… two cups of water. Okay! ( ♫♪ Music ♪♫) Chop off the edges. First cut the cucumber in half cut it in half again and uh…one more Put some salt over the cucumbers, a lot of salt. Pour 1 teaspoon of vinegar And mix it again! Let it sit for about 10 minutes So use half a carrot and chop it all into small slices. Half an onion… (・u・?) wait no…. (laughter) (Laughter) Salt the Cucumber(carrot)! …Salt the cucumber(carrot) and… Uhh… What? (laughter) One teaspoon of vinegar and mix it well. Let this sit for about 10 minutes as well This is imitation crabmeat All the moms used this to put this in Kimbap. Tear it apart in half okay? With your hands They’re very soft. So this is pickled Daikon, one piece goes in for one Kimbap We want egg per one strip of Kimbap. This is my mom’s style of breaking an egg, using a spoon. To soften the eggs we’re going to add one teaspoon of water ( ♫♪ Music ♪♫ ) Turn on the heat, a medium heat. Add some oil, so we’re going to do one big egg roll Swirl it around so that it’s all evenly laid out We’re going to flip it with the thing (spatula). Place it on the side and add the remaining eggs And then swirl it around again and make sure that all the sides are cooked as well (laughter) ( ♫♪ Music ♪♫) So for our non-vegetarian Kimbap we are going to use some beef. So we couldn’t find any ground beef so we are just making our own Apply salt and pepper generously, and just mix it well together. Cook until all the red color is gone. ( ♫♪ Music ♪♫) One teaspoon of salt in. Spread it evenly! One tablespoon of vinegar Mix it well. You can see that water is coming out of the cucumber and the carrot We’re going to squeeze the cucumber on a paper towel so that we can take out all the water inside Put it on the frying pan at a low heat just for about 10 seconds and the same process goes for the carrots You’re going to slice the egg roll Lengthwise… ooh~ Look at those slices and beautiful natabee So just cut it into Little small slices, you want all these ingredients to be similar width. Just get some seaweed that looks like this. Basically used for Kimbap. Turn on to a medium heat, wait for the frying pan to heat. Let it sit it on one side for about 10 seconds and flip it around, 10 seconds. ( ♫♪ Music ♪♫ ) So in Korea we call this a Kimbap pal(?) They’re going to hold our kimbap firm and strong together place your roasted seaweed over the bamboo stick. Take one small palm of the rice and spread it apart over the 3/4 of your seaweed. So let’s say the 3/4 line stands over here So I’m just going to mark the 3/4 line to spread it apart. Fill up our rice with our ingredients. First in our Daikon Next goes in our imitation crab. Time for our meat Next goes in our cucumber Next goes in our carrot Our egg rolls Now time for a roll up! First time make sure that one side of the seaweed with rice, sticks and touches the other side of the rice. So give it a firm squeeze lift up the Bamboo mat Give it a squeeze Lifting it up again. Give it another squeeze keep repeating this cycle until you come to the end of this bamboo stick and flip it around And now wrap it backwards all the way towards the end and give it a final firm squeeze and open the mat up and uh… you will be faced with your beautiful full Circle Kimbap We’ve actually made five rolls of Kimbap. So put a little bit of sesame oil in a small container I’m going to use a small brush. Roll your your Kimbop around and paint the seaweed. So cut it in half first gently and smoothly ( ♫♪ Music ♪♫ ) Mmmmm…. Daniel: Is it good? Pretty good? The beautiful thing is that you can feel the taste of all the five ingredients together with the sticky rice (Laughter) Good! (Laughter) ₒ₍₊˒₃˓₎ₒ▁▂▃▅▆▓▒░✩⃛ (really loud sneeze lol) (Laughter)
